1. When you were a senior in high school, what career did you think you’d choose? Did you? Why or why not?
I thought I’d be a lawyer. And no – I didn’t. I went to college, got a BA in Political Science (still thinking I’d be a lawyer), and applied to law schools three rounds. No one accepted me. I had excellent test scores, activities, internships, etc. No one even called me back. I got disgusted and decided not to pursue it further. Then, I thought I’d go back to graduate school for a Master’s in Public Administration…however my DH (boyfriend at the time) had just gotten a Master’s of Public Policy, and was still having trouble finding employment.

So I decided to forgo the “further education”. Boyfriend-soon-to-be-fiancé (and now husband) had racked up 80,000 in student debt for his degree, and considering it wasn’t helping him all the much, I decided to forgo adding to our lifetime debt as well.

But if somebody gave me the money, I’d go back for a Master’s degree in a heartbeat. I work for local government now, and feel like it would help me move up the ranks.

2. What one thing about the “real world” did you find most surprising once you were on your own?
Not that much. My mother left me and my dad when I was 13, and my dad didn’t cook/clean/launder, etc, so I learned all of that stuff, all those domestic responsibilities, at an early age. She also moved out at a time when we were boarding horses, so I took up that business as well. Responsibilities weren’t a surprise to me after college.

What surprised me most was how difficult it was to get a job. My entire life people told me to go to college, because it meant a better job. I couldn’t get a job period. I was overqualified for most entry-level positions because of my degree, and not qualified for upper level because I had no experience.

Finding my first real job out of college was a horrible and trying experience. I wish they’d spend more time in college helping you get ready for that. And even when I did find jobs, the first 2 were administrative/receptionist type jobs (nothing to do with my degree) which paid diddly squat.

The better paying jobs I’ve had since then have come because of personal recommendation and hard work. Not my college degree.

3. Name 3 things you think your closest friends DON’T like about you.
I’m a homebody, I dislike “adventure” and most of the hobbies and activities I enjoy…I enjoy doing alone.

4. In order to sleep, do you need background noise or absolute quiet?
I need the hum of a fan and the constant air flow it creates. We installed ceiling fans in our bedrooms thinking it would provide what I needed – but they’re too quiet. LOL

5. Why do you choose to reside in your current city? Yes, you have a choice.
I moved here because my boyfriend (now husband) had moved back to his hometown (this area) and had gotten a good-paying job. I was working temp jobs, living with my dad, on the other side of the state. So I moved here. Then I found a decent paying job. And my husband has an irrational fear of not being able to find another good paying job anywhere else, so we stayed here. We bought a house here.

But I wish we lived closer to my family, as we have zero support network here for when we have kids. No free babysitters, long distance travel to see grandparents….sucks.

6. Are you close to your parents?
Not physically, but we talk often on the phone. I wish we lived closer, especially as we talk about having children.

7. What is your favorite fiction book? Poem? Blog?
Fiction Book: Legend of the Seeker book series

Poem: Fire and Ice by Robert Frost

Blog: Carrots n Cake

8. Do you enjoy cooking or is it a chore?
I run a cooking blog, so I’d say I enjoy cooking. haha

9. Be honest. What one thing would (the majority of) your blog readers be shocked to find out about you?
I rode horses and competed nationally for 10 years (Arabian breed circuit). And miss it dearly.

10. If you were given your own national holiday, what would you require people to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the Day of You? Would there be a parade? Greeting cards?
It would always fall on a Monday or Friday, and would be a holiday from work for everyone. I don’t need parades or greeting cards, but I’d want it to be a national get-together-and-cook-out-or-picnic kind of holiday….probably in early/mid May so the weather is nice, but not hot yet.

1. Of your current hobbies, which would you choose to spend more time, money, and effort on? Why?

Cooking. If budget (both money and time) was unlimited – oh the things I could make! LOL

2. List the two other hobbies/habitual activities (not chores) besides the one listed above that you regularly do now and didn’t choose in question one.

Reading, Fitness
3. Why are you spending time on the above two hobbies/habitual activities at all if you really wanted to spend your time on the first one you chose?  …or to put it another way, what are these two hobbies/habitual activities fulfilling that the first one doesn’t if you don’t want to put all your effort into the first hobby?

Reading is more relaxing and available in more environments, if you will.

Fitness is a stress reliever from my job, as well as keeps the poundage at bay from all that cookin’ I like to do!

4. Ready John 3:16 in the bible… In what way does this passage affect you?  What are your feelings towards these words, positively or negatively?

No Bible handy. That alone probably says something about me.

5. M&M’s: nuts, no nuts, or peanut butter?

No nuts; dark chocolate

6. Putting away the feeling of pride being a bad thing; what secretly/openly are you proud about yourself?

My organizational skills

7. Given one room in the house to do with what you want, not changing the actual size of the room and with all the money you would need, what would you do, and be specific?  (this can range from bouncy floor, walls & ceilings; to hard wood floor with wood paneling and purple ceiling with a chair; to nothing)

I would gut my kitchen, put in new, white cabinetry with frosted glass fronts, marble countertops, new tile flooring. I’d raise the ceiling in the kitchen and remove all the horrible 1960’s florescent lighting. I’d put new appliances in as well.

8. What’s the next movie you’re going to see?  Not what you’d LIKE to GO see, but the next movie you realistically are going to watch.

I have no idea. DH and I don’t watch that many movies. I really want to see Clash of the Titans, though. I’m a dork.
9. Use the keyboard only and make your best smiley/funny/cool face –> like this! 8^)

The one I normally use is… 🙂

10. What makes you cry? What makes you pray? What makes you laugh?

Cry: Almost everything. I’m a big sap.

Pray: Anxiety attacks

Laugh: My dog. She’s wild. 🙂

1. If you were given an hour to use a $200 Amazon gift card, what would you buy?
House décor items. Our walls are bare because DH and I can’t agree on anything. LOL

2. Are there any fairly common foods that you’ve never had?
Clams, Pastrami, Sea Bass, Mussels

3. What was your favorite way to use your imagination as a kid?
I had a lot of made-up-imaginary pets and friends. I was an only child, but still…I’m not sure what that says about me. haha

4. What’s your favorite state? Why?
I’d never admit it to my husband, but California. Weather is awesome and you can vary your climate by going north, south, east or west. Perfect.

I say California b/c I’ve been there, but I imagine Washington and Oregon to be perfect, too. I love that northwestern green/rain/ocean thing.

5. If it was our culture to have our parents choose our spouses, do you think yours would make a good choice?
I think my dad would’ve picked someone pretty boring, but totally reliable. My mom would’ve picked someone without thinking about the long-term effects. She’s an “in the moment” kind of person.

Honestly, I’m not sure I’d want my parents to pick my spouse. haha

6. What’s your favorite herb?

7. If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would you choose?
I’m not much into celebrities, so I don’t honestly know. I don’t find them to be any more interesting than regular folk. They just have more money.

8. What’s your favorite Disney movie?
Sleeping Beauty. Hands Down. The animation was perfect and non computer generated.

9. If you had to listen to the same song over and over for 24 hours, what song would you choose?
Right now it would probably be “All The Right Moves” by OneRepublic, or “Ali In The Jungle” by The Hours – because I’m basically playing both on loop anyway.

10. How do you order your steak?
Medium-well. I want it slightly pink, but not bleeding.

I found this neat little “10 on Tuesday” thing via a few different blogs, but apparently it originated at Roots and Rings. It isn’t specifically health and fitness related, but I thought it might fall under ‘wellness’/get to know you. 🙂

1. If you could open any type of store/place of business (money is no obstacle), what would you open?
A bookstore/bakery/healthy lunch spot. I know that’s actually a lot of businesses in one, but still. I adore books and think it would be awesome to own a bookshop where people could come and relax and read, eat, chat, whatever.

2. If all jobs paid equally, what occupation would you want? Why?
Equestrienne. I showed horses as a child and miss it desperately as an adult, however, I can’t afford to keep the hobby going now that I’m a “responsible adult”

3. If you could be any animal in the world, what would you pick? Why?
A horse. There’s no freedom like seeing a horse running full out. It’s truly amazing. And I’d love to experience it (without having to be the rider!)

4. If offered one “service” free of charge, which would you choose? (chauffeur, maid, personal shopper, chef, etc.)
I don’t have children yet, but my biggest worry about having children is daycare. So I’m going to say nanny. Hands-absolutely-down. I could probably also use a personal shopper…I’m not so good with the fashion. 🙂

5. What is one habit, no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to break?
Hair twirling. I’m the hair twirling champion of the world. When I’m agitated, don’t feel good, or an uncomfortable, it’s nearly impossible to keep my fingers out of my hair. It’s bad.

6. What is one thing that no matter how many you own, you still love to buy all the time?
Baking accessories. Any baking accessory.

7. Out of all the game shows (past and present), which would you want to be a participant on and play?
Jeopardy. But since it’s been awhile since I watched, I’d probably only qualify for the junior version. haha

8. If you could play the lead role in any movie that’s already been made, which movie would you pick?
I really don’t do acting. So I guess a movie with a hunky co-star? LOL At least get to enjoy the view….(actually coming up with said movie, though, is more difficult)

9. Name 5 things on your bucket list (things you want to do before you die).
I don’t really have a bucket list. I’m one of those people who gets agitated when things don’t get marked off the “to-do” list in short order, so I feel like a bucket list would just make me irritated. LOL I’d love to own horses again, I’d love to be able to run again and compete in a few 5k/10k races (injuries and unstable hips have kept me from it).

10.  Which one of your birthdays was the best? What did you do that day?
I don’t remember any ONE birthday over the others. All my birthdays were awesome. In my family, birthdays weren’t about having every neighborhood kid in the tri-state area at your house for parties…in my family, birthdays were family affairs, to be celebrated WITH family. And looking back, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
