Haven’t done one in awhile…

1. Pretend it’s Monday morning–take us through a day in the life of you.
Alarm goes off at 6:30, I get out of bed, pee, and take the dog outside to do her business. Said dog thinks this is also an excursion to smell every blade of grass in the yard, so “business” ends up taking 10 minutes, and I just spend that time standing in the back yard, looking out over the quiet fields our yard backs up to. Once pup is satisfied, in the house we go, where I pack my lunch and clean up anything laying around the living room (we keep a blended-in decorative basket under one end table and toss all remotes, magazines, etc in there in the morning so pup doesn’t get any chewing ideas during the day). I hop in the shower, get out, lotion/spf myself, brush my teeth, and put on half my clothes. I’m bizarre. I’m put on my underclothes (hehe I said underclothes) and my pants for work. Then I blow dry my hair, and THEN I put my shirt/shoes/jewelry on. I grab my bags, and put them in the car, head back in, kiss hubs (who is still sleeping) and head to work. I work 8-4:30 with ½ hour for lunch, normally taken at noon so I can eat with my co-workers (it’s a small office, and co-mingled lunch is a social must on most days). I eat breakfast at my desk, as well as a pre-gym snack about 3:00-3:30. At 4:30, I drive to the gym (2 blocks from work) and work out until 6:00 or so. I head home, have a recovery snack, and then walk the dog for ½ hour. I come home, and hubs is usually home from the gym by now (~6:45 or 7:00). Monday, hubs always cooks. So while he’s making dinner, I prep my food for the following day, let the dog out to play with the neighbor dog, get my clothes and gym clothes ready for the next day. We eat dinner, I do dishes, then sit down to read blogs, email, check facebook, or blog myself. Bedtime rolls around at 10:30 and then we do it all over again. 🙂

2. What’s your favorite reality tv show?
I honestly watch VERY little television, and immensely dislike reality TV. So none?

3. What motto do you live by?
I don’t live by a motto. Maybe I should. hah

4. If you knew could you try anything and not fail, what dream would you attempt?
I’d open a book/food type store. You can lounge around like it’s a huge comfy library, and do whatever you want, but there’s also a delicious menu available as well. Limited items (because I’d want to cook them and focus on things) but it would be delicious.

I’d start a horse training business. I do miss horses a lot.

5. What was your first job?
First summer job was stable manager for a horse training facility. The end result was me in a cast for 6 weeks, because a horse tore all the tendons in 3 of my fingers on my left hand. Nice, eh? All for $7/hour 🙂

My first “real life” job was a secretary/electrical estimator for an electrical contracting company. I worked for Satan. No boss will ever be worse than that man. But my co-workers were awesome and sympathetic. We banded together. 🙂

6. What is your current job?
I am a GIS & Information Systems Administrator (ever notice how they give you an important title, but no money? That’s me.) I run online tracking systems for homeless clients, I do digital mapping, and data analysis – all for a local government level social service agency. I love it because I do something different every day. It’s never boring!

7. What would you call yourself if you could choose your own name (and you cannot pick the one you already have)?
At this point in my life I’m pretty content with my name – Kelly. I always wanted to spell it Kelle, though. Oh well.

At one point in early teenagedom I wanted to be called Maeve. Is that weird?

8. What musical instruments can you play?
BAHAHAHAHAH……I can’t read any music, let alone play. I’m bad at the recorder, for pete’s sake.

9. Is it easier to forgive or forget?
Forgive. Forgetting is hard.

10. What is one food you’d never want to taste again?
Olives, okra, mushrooms, spam, …..I could go on and on.

I’m a day behind!

1. What was your high school superlative (if you didn’t have one- what would it have been)?
I don’t think I had one. Really. I just did well, flew under the radar, and mingled with multiple groups. I didn’t hit the radar on anything long enough to make a superlative.

2. What sports did you play in high school?
I showed Arabian horses on a national circuit. I rode all types over the years – western, hunt seat, and saddleseat. My best was equitation. It isn’t exactly “I ran track” but it was more work and money and time. 🙂 I loved it and miss it.

3.  What was the best part about your wedding (if you’re not married yet, what are you looking forward to?)

Honestly? The Type A in me says the best part was that everything went smoothly. LOL Oh, and my cake was so delicious it was life altering. Seriously.

4. It’s your last meal– what Appetizer, Soup, Salad, Entree and Dessert would you choose?
I don’t know if I could eat that much. Holy cow.

Appetizer – No idea…I never eat these. Maybe bruschetta?

Soup – Italian Wedding Soup

Salad – Good Ceasar salad with fresh made dressing – no anchovies

Entrée – Stuffed Shells. Not just any stuffed shells. The stuffed shells of my “second mom” (my best friend’s mom). I don’t know what she does, but she makes the best stuffed shells I’ve ever tasted, hands down.

Dessert – More cake from the woman who made my wedding cake. It was LIFE CHANGING, people.

5.  What song is your guilty pleasure?
Right now? (Ashamedly) anything by Lady Gaga or Ke$ha. The hubs makes fun of me daily for it. 🙂

6.  What is your favorite professional sports team, and why do you like them?
Pittsburgh Steelers. Because it’s in my blood. I kid (sort of)! I grew up just north of Pittsburgh, and we tend to be die-hard loyal to our “Stillers”.

7.  What is your favorite reality show and why do you like it?
16 and Pregnant. I have no idea. I just love watching it. haha

8. How would you classify your home decorating style (modern, classic, french country)?
“Poor first time home buyers” 🙂 We’ve been in our house over a year and I am still trying to find money for new window treatments.

9. Pizza- deep dish or thin crust? White sauce or red sauce? What toppings?
If I’m indulging, deep dish, red sauce, extra cheese, and sausage.

10.  Favorite weekend getaway within a two hour driving radius?
Baltimore probably 🙂 Or maybe New Hope, PA

1. Do you prefer markers, crayons, or colored pencils?
Markers. Hands down. Colored pencils aren’t bad…I dislike the lack of precision in a crayon.

2. As a child, how did your parents celebrate your birthday? (Parties, cake, you pick the dinner, etc.)
I got to choose my dinner and my dessert/cake, and it was often celebrated with my grandmother. We never threw “parties” though, and to this day I think birthday parties are bizarre.

3. How do you feel about leggings?
If you are built like a twig – go for it. I am not, and acknowledge I look like a sausage in casing when I wear them. Don’t go there!

4. How do you prefer to follow directions? With a map? Words?
I like words – 5 lights or 2 lights turn right at the wendy’s type stuff.

5. What do you eat for snack?
I try to vary it…yogurt/fruit/granola, string cheese/apple, granola bar &pb, ½ a pb&j sandwich

6. Have you ever ordered anything from an infomercial or bought any As Seen on TV products?
No, but my mother in law does ALL THE TIME and whenever they send her ‘two’ of something I end up with one. LOL Off the top of my head, I have the pasta pot that has a colander on the side so you can drain it, the Magic Bullet, and about 3 sets of As Seen on TV knives.

7. What’s your favorite thing about summer?
Fruit 🙂

8. Do you have a tattoo? What and where is it?

9. Are you good at journaling?
Terrible 🙂 Oddly enough, I still run two blogs. HA!

10.  What’s your favorite way to eat a hamburger?
Little ketchup, toasted bun. Burger grilled, medium-well. 🙂

1.  Think back a decade, do you remember what your first cellphone was? Was it as cool as Zack Morris’s phone?
I got my first cell phone in 1998 when I got my license. It was a green Nokia, and it was probably 2” thick. But I was awesome with my red sports coupe and my cell phone. LOL

2. What is the first children’s book you remember being read to you?
I don’t really remember any being read to me. I started reading myself at an early age. I loved the Where The Sidewalk Ends

3. What was your first car? Did you love it or hate it?
1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Red. I still miss that car.

4. Who was your hero growing up?
I don’t think I had one. Is that bad? I grew up showing Arabian horses, though, and I looked up to my trainers at the time.

5. Think back to your first kiss. Was it everything you dreamed of?
I’m going to assume you don’t mean the hit-and-run kiss I planted on my neighbor on the bus ride home from kindergarten. Haha Is it terrible that I don’t really remember my first real kiss?

6.  What was your first BAD hairstyle choice? (Extra points for embarrassing photos)
I had hair almost down to my waist in 6th grade and I wanted it permed. It was so heavy, though, I ended up with a uniform wave, and only for a few weeks, before my stick-straight hair rebelled and went back to its natural state.

7. What was your first realistic dream? (One where you had to think “Oh dang, was that a dream?”)
I don’t remember many of my dreams.

8. What was the first phobia you remember developing?
Water. I was dunked by my cousins until I passed out when I was like 4. I’m terrified of water.

9. Which character on Sesame Street do you most identify with?
I don’t think I ever identified with any of them. LOL

10. What was the hardest goal you ever accomplished?
I don’t know. I feel like after I’ve accomplished a goal it doesn’t feel as ‘tough’ and I forget about it. Is that bad?

1.  What two cities should be moved closer together?
York, PA and Butler, PA. So my family is closer and it isn’t such a hassle to see them.

2. What was the first plane ride you took?
I flew home  — by myself – from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh. I’d driven cross-country with my boyfriend (now husband) to take all his stuff to Malibu, CA so he could attend Pepperdine University, and I had to fly back home by myself.

3. What continent would you most like to visit?
United Kingdom

4. What’s your favorite place to window-shop?
Any kind of kitchen/bed/bath type store. I LOVE looking.

5. What’s the least fun you’ve ever had at a place specifically tailored for fun?
We did our honeymoon in Las Vegas, immediately after our wedding. The first 2 days I was so exhausted from wedding planning/stress/jitters/jet lag that all I wanted to do was sleep. I suck. 🙂

6.  You’re stuck on an island with plenty of food, a companion, and a relatively stress-free lifestyle. What do you say when the rescue ship comes?
“What took you so long?”

7. Which day of the week do you look forward to most?
Sundays. Normally all the chores are done and at least half of Sunday is mine to do as I’d like.

8. What’s your favorite place to enjoy the great outdoors?
Mountains 🙂 I am SO not a beach person.

9. What’s on your “to do” list this summer?
“Summer doesn’t have the same meaning as it did in school. Now it’s just the same as the rest of the year, only hotter. Much hotter.”ß- Amen, sistah!

I’m going to do a small garden, and going to try to do more outdoors activities for my fitness. I think I’ve become a bit of a gym rat.

10. Which natural disaster freaks you out the most?
We don’t get many here – the occasional tornado, or rain from a hurricane, but that’s about it. In general, tsunamis scare the crap out of me because I’m afraid of water.

1.  If you could travel back in time, would you?  What decade would you visit?
Yes I would. I’d either want to go WAY back (we’re talking the height of Rome, here) or just back to the 40’s, 50’s…so I can see why all the people in my parents’ generation seem so wacked out. LOL

2. What was your best Halloween costume?  (fun to make? most creative?)
I’ve never been much of a dresser-upper for Halloween. I remember being Snow White twice as a child, a cat, and a ghost. And that’s it. LOL

I grew up in the country and if you were going to go door-to-door it was going to be several miles of walking…so it wasn’t really a part of me growing up.

Oh, and I think I was a bumblebee once in college. Really just an excuse to drink, though. haha

3. Do you like your name?  If you weren’t called by your name, what would you want to be called?
My name is okay. I actually have 4 friends with the same name (all different spellings) so it’s a little common. My mom wanted to name me Erin (I always picture Erins with red hair, tall, skinny. I don’t know why) and my dad wanted to name me Lillian (I might’ve been able to rock Lily, but….LILLIAN?!) and I’m glad I didn’t end up with either of those. I don’t know what I’d want to be called. I like old names, like my grandma (Grace Elizabeth) and would probably pick something similar.

4. In the past year, what is the BEST recipe you made.  Please share it!
Too many to list. But I’ll try (remember, I run a cooking blog. LOL)

Amazing Double Vanilla Bean Cupcakes

Sunken Burritos

Last Minute Lasagna

Cookie Dough Truffles

Baked Ziti

Crockpot Kahlua Pork

Best Beef Stew Ever

Roasted Garlic and Mozzarella Meatballs

Lemon Garlic Shrimp with Orzo and Broccoli

Weeknight Paella

Cinnamon Bun Cake

5. Look around – what is the nearest object or picture hanging on the wall?
A map of Pennsylvania’s Continua of Care for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (I’m at work!)

6. What was the last movie you saw in a theater?  Would you recommend it?
Dave and I don’t go often, so Avatar in 3D was the last one. I liked it, but am apparently one of the few people completely unimpressed by 3D. I’d like to see it again on a huge hi-def tv. I think it would be cooler.

7. Did you go to summer camp?  Will you/do you send your kids to camp?
Never. I showed horses from April – October every year.

8. What kind of ringtone do you have?
Train – Hey Soul Sister

9. Where is the farthest away from home you have ever been?
Malibu, CA

10. Has anyone ever written a song or a poem for or about you?
Nope…and a big part of me is TOTALLY okay with that.

1. What television character do you identify with?
I can’t even think of one. Although, I don’t watch much TV, and, last I checked there weren’t many TV shows about working 8-4:30, going to the gym, walking the dog, making dinner, and getting ready to do it all over again – which is my life. haha

2. Describe your morning routine.
I wake up, throw on pajama pants, and take Holly outside to do her business. Come back in, open up all the blinds, turn on the fish tank lights, clean up the living room (read: hide all things from puppy). Pack my breakfast/lunch(I prep it the night before and just toss it in my lunchbag in the a.m.), feed the dog, get a shower and brush teeth. Check email, blowdry hair, let pup out to frolic with the neighbor dog while I pour a travel mug of Citrucel for the trip into work. Load my work bag, gym bag, purse, lunchbox, and travel mug into the car, collect the pup back into the house, kiss a still-sleeping DH, and head to work.

3. How do you do lunch? Bring from home or dine out? Same thing every day or mix it up?
I bring from home most of the time, but Tues/Thurs the farmer’s market is open and I can be easily tempted by that. Friday my office normally orders out as a group.

4. What is one moment that, although seemingly trivial at the time, changed your life?
Going bowling with my girlfriends in college. That’s when I met the husband!

5. Name your top three beauty products.
I’m not much of a beauty product person.

Lip gloss

Aveda hairbrush (best brush EVER)

Aveeno face lotion with spf 30

6. What do you do when you’re alone in the car?
I sing, or talk to myself. Seriously.

7. What is the ideal city for you to live in? If you can, take this survey (< that’s a link) and tell us the results. Do you agree with them?
I took the quiz and here are my top 5 cities:
1. Hendersonville, NC – never heard of it. Seems nice.

2.Easton, PA – I live about an hour/hour and a half from it. It’s a dive with expensive housing outside of Philly. No thanks.

3. Bremerton, WA – never heard of it

4. Johnstown, PA – I’m from near here, originally. It’s also a dive, with no work/economy.

5. Lewiston, ME – never heard of it.

I don’t agree with some of them, but others make me curious.

8. Are you waiting for something?
I have a meeting at 1pm today and I’ll be happier when it’s over.

9. What was the last shocking news you heard?
They passed that healthcare bill. Ugh.

10. What are three things you wouldn’t do for a million dollars?
I wouldn’t kill anyone, I wouldn’t hurt my family/friends, and I wouldn’t give up a limb/organ.
