My day off didn’t exactly turn out how I’d planned.

I had a large list of things to do today and I’ve basically accomplished nothing.

I hate that.

I woke up early, but with a migraine. After some rest, some Advil, and some saltines and water (I don’t know why, but saltines and water help my migraines), I was at least functional.

I showered, ate breakfast (hurray for stovetop oatmeal! it’s so much better than microwave oatmeal!), and then went outside to take the trash/recyclables to the street for pickup.

I took pup out with me, and in the whopping 2 minutes it took me to accomplish my task and pop some mail in the mailbox she was gone. So was the neighbor dog she’d been playing with.

Now, I know – don’t leave your dog off their leash. Blah Blah Blah. We live in a fairly rural residential neighborhood, and it has honestly never been a problem. She and the neighbor pup play in the yard, then we go in the house. No biggie.

So, the neighbor and I spent half an hour walking around calling these crazy dogs. Then I hopped in my car to do a drive-through search of other areas.

No dogs.

On my way back to the house, I see a neighbor motioning that the dogs are in my neighbors yard. Sure enough – they came back. Then I had to go back out and find my poor neighbor – who was on foot, looking for them – and bring him back to the house.

All in frigid temperatures with 50 MPH winds.

love it.

Well, that fiasco put me behind on my cupcake baking for this evening, and then DH requested I make him lunch, and one thing led to another and now it’s 3pm and I’ve done nothing.

Sigh.

Cranky-fest over.

Breakfast

Stovetop banana oats! So much better than their microwave cousin!

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 banana, mashed
  • cinnamon
  • generous dribble of vanilla extract

Snack

None, as I was out hunting for my dog and worried she was gone forever. *shakes fist at dog*

Lunch

Annie’s Whole Wheat Shells with White Cheddar, and 2 carrots cut into sticks

Snack

I’m going to take said pup for a short walk…despite her being bad, we’re going to be gone all evening, so she’s going to need some exercise this afternoon.

After my walk I’m going to put my last incredibly ripe pear out of misery. Maybe with some PB.

 

Exercise

None, save walking the dog. DH and I need to be at a friends house at 5pm, and my head is still killing me. I’m hoping to nap, instead of exercise. 😦

Dinner

We’re having a get together with all of DH’s friends and their spouses tonight, so dinner will be unpictured, and unpredictable!

I know we’re having a variety of soups (Soup Night!) such as chili, clam chowder, and chicken corn soup, and I know I’m bring double vanilla bean cupcakes…but I don’t know what anyone else is planning!

2/24/10

It’s my birthday! Wee!

I’m 28 today 🙂

Today’s eats are wild and full of sugar. I’m not gonna lie. Tomorrow’s eats will be filled with sugar coma, I’m sure.

Oh, and just another note…I write most of my blog post throughout the day. So if my tenses don’t always match, that’s why. haha

Breakfast

I actually made myself eggs, ready to have an egg sammich this a.m. and then at the last minute – I copped out and packed my cereal!

Snack

No snack, in anticipation of the giant chocolate chip cookie at lunch…

Lunch

Leftover skillet noodle lasagna. Since DH picked out the Barilla Plus! Pasta, he now refuses to eat the leftovers for lunch. Brat.

I packed some steamed asparagus, but the lasagna filled me up. Mayhaps the asparagus will make an appearance at dinner.

In addition to lunch was…tada! The Giant Cookie! (after we ate half LOL)

It was amazing and delicious. I only had a small piece…and amongst my 10-employee-office we ate half. Whoops. Haha

Snack

Workout will be uber light tonight, and with the sugar crash from the cookie, all I could manage is a pear.

Delicious pear. It’s an Anjou, though…I prefer Bartlett.

I also hate how when I buy pears, they’re all-of-the-sudden all ripe at the same time. Same with peaches and nectarines. What the heck!?

Exercise

The original plan today involved taking my co-worker out for drinks after work. She’s getting married in Jamaica next week, so we wanted to do this one thing for her. However, with impending snow and obligations, she was unable to go.

I had originally planned to just do yoga at home tonight, thinking it was all I’d have time for. Now I had time to go to the gym.

But

I am uber sore and stiff from lifting the last two days. I dunno why, but it’s really been kickin’ my booty!

So I opted to celebrate my birthday with relaxed exercise….a walk with my cabin-fever-crazy pup for 30 minutes or so (you can only do so many loops around 2 streets. Our neighborhood park is still buried under snow, and the rural road out of our development is a deadly one-laner due to snow!), and 40 minutes of gentle, streeeeetching yoga.

Pure bliss. 🙂

I wore the HRM, so my calories would be counted for the week. It reported 260 calories burned. Take it, for an easy exercise.

Dinner

I cooked tonight, despite it being my birthday, because I was super-hungry for coconut shrimp. I wasn’t sure how to go about it, so I kind of winged it…

I toasted coconut, then mixed it with breadcrumbs. Then I dipped the shrimp in egg whites and then in coconut/bread crumbs, then baked them on a cookie sheet, flipping them ½ way through cooking.

They weren’t bad! Although apparently my phone ate the picture…

We had risotto and green beans with it.

Nom nom nom!

Dessert

Well, I still need to get my yogurt in…AND split a coconut cupcake with DH. Oh, the trials and tribulations of my birthday!

Presents

DH got me a swanky, expensive, incredibly-sharp japanese santoku knife. I’m in lurve!

My ILs got me an awesome foot bath/paraffin wax combo set. I’m excited to play with it. They also got me a new crepe maker! Hurray!

My parents and grandma sent me cash, so I’ll be buying some new work clothes and probably a router so DH and I don’t have to share a computer anymore…it’s seriously not working. We’re both junkies. LOL

Wow. That was a whole lot of sugar in a 2 day period. There has been….chocolate chip cookie with icing on it, half a huuuuge coconut cupcake with DH, a donut, and another piece of the chocolate chip cookie.

That’s enough to make me really want to swear off the sugar.

Oy.

Breakfast

My breakfast was two part. Did I intend it to be? Nope.

I got to work, and a co-worker had brought in homemade-by-little-old-ladies glazed donuts. I, normally, am not a donut person, but these were small, light, fluffy, and so homemade they screamed.

I couldn’t handle it and had one before I’d even turned my computer on for the day.

Then, a bit later, I ate my planned breakfast…and ¾ of the way through, realized I didn’t photograph!

I had an egg + an egg white, and a slice of reduced fat Monterey jack cheese on a bagel thin. With a handful of red grapes.

Lunch

I packed a lunch, but at the last minute ended up attending a luncheon meeting for a co-worker (with lunch provided). Luckily, the person I filled in for eats relatively healthy, so I was pleasantly surprised to find a nice, light chicken salad (with grapes and almonds) on whole wheat homemade bread and sunchips in my lunchbox. Score!!

After lunch I headed back to my office and succumbed to the leftovers from my giant birthday cookie from yesterday. I had the thinnest slice I could sliver off, but still…when the sugar finally left my system, I was pretty “crashed”.

Snack

As snack time rolled around, I was admittedly not all that hungry. My tums hurt from all the sugar over the last 2 days, I had crashed from the cookie, and was all-around irritable. But, I need a good workout tonight, and tonight is back and bicep lifting night, so I forced myself to eat something to fuel me…and promptly forgot to photograph.

See that? That’s the remains of a handful of pistachios and a Clementine. Aka my snack.

Exercise

Tonight is 30 minutes of steady state cardio on the elliptical, plus weights for biceps and back, and some piriformis stretching.

Here’s what I did for back/biceps:

  • Barbell Bent Over Row 3x12xempty Olympic barbell (45 lbs?)
  • Lat Pulldown 3x12x70 lbs
  • Reverse Pec Deck Flye 3x12x50
  • Seated Row (Rowing Cable Machine) 3x12x45
  • Cross-Body Dumbbell Hammer Curl 3x12x12.5 lbs
  • Concentration Curls 3x12x20 lbs
  • Incline Bench Dumbbell Curls 3x12x15 lbs
  • Standing EZ Bar Curl 3x12xempty bar

HRM says 460 calories burned. I must’ve been moving at a snails pace on the elliptical. Eh, you’ll have that.

Dinner

Dinner was leftover skillet noodle lasagna. Hurray for meals that feed us multiple times!

Dessert

Dessert, of course, is the yogurt and antibiotics chaser. Loverly.

Evening

I’m going to take it easy this evening, and I am off tomorrow to celebrate my birthday. Tomorrow’s plans involve…

  • Trip to Target
  • Making cupcakes + icing them
  • Menu planning/grocery list making
  • Walking the pup
  • Working out
  • *Hopefully* finding some time to veg and read a bit of my book!

Busy Tuesday! Part of my job is funded by HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) and my APR (Annual Progress Report) is due soon, so I’ve been working on that….and still trying to reschedule meetings from “Snowmageddon”!

Breakfast

The Red Berry Crunch made an appearance today, in its usual way – milk, blueberries, and banana!

After breakfast and working a bit, I took a quick break to go get my new license photo taken…

I liked my old license pic…not sure about this one. You can tell I’m thinner through the face, though. And they changed the camera, so the color is better, but it’s way closer up to your face…none of my clothing shows!

My hair was way shorter back then, and I was still fighting the contacts battle at the time. I miss my contacts. I don’t miss my hair being that short, or those sideswept bangs! Ugh!

Oh well – it’s done, and I won’t be an illegal driver come February 26th! Good times.

Lunch

Lunch was a side salad (spring mix, tomatoes, cukes, peppers) with red wine vinegar and one of the fundraiser pizza’s I mentioned on Saturday.

For some reason, in my packing-haste last night, I thought it was a good idea to cut the pizza in half and lay it in this container.

So now it’s basically a pizza sandwich. Oh well! LOL

There may have also been two unpictured soft pretzel bites. A co-worker got an order of pretzel bites and nacho cheese for us to split as we ate lunch. Deliciousness.

Incidentally, I photograph my food at my desk as I’m unpacking it, but I eat in our conference room with my co-workers. Now ya know.

Snack

Kind bar. Love these things, and they power me through my workouts awesomely.

Dinner

Skillet Noodle Lasagna. I tried to smuggle Barilla Plus! Pasta into it and he picked up on it on the first bite. So much for that.

Since it has so much spinach in it (I double the spinach from the original recipe posted on my blog) I didn’t serve any other veggies with it…I was happy to fill up on cheesy pasta tonight 🙂

DH had an evening work meeting, so dinner was a bit later than usual so I didn’t have to re-heat it for him.

Ignore my messy plate.

Exercise

Tonight I did 20 minutes of HIIT on the elliptical, then I stretched briefly, and did abs. I keep a folder of exercises I’ve kept from magazines, etc, and I pulled out a couple new ones to try. This was more of a test run of new exercises than an orchestrated abs workout.

Then I moved onto lower body…

This was actually only half what I thought I’d do, but my left quad was hurting, and I was draggin’.

HRM says 650 calories burned. Take it.

Evening

Evening included my customary yogurt to chase my antibiotics with, as well as 1/2 a cupcake from market, in honor of the day-before-my-birthday. ha!

By the time I get home, get dinner done, dishes washed, breakfast and lunch packed for the next day, gym clothes packed for the next day, work clothes laid out, dog played with or walked, and this post blogged, it’s basically 9pm.

So most evenings are the same: PJs, husband, dog, Olympics, and my book. 🙂

I didn’t get a chance to post about Sunday so here you go – Sunday and Monday!

Sunday

Breakfast

I asked DH what he wanted for his “special breakfast” (Sunday’s breakfast is normally “special” and something we don’t commonly eat). I offered him a few suggestions: pancakes, oatmeal, eggs, bacon, toast, etc.

He decided eggs, the 3 leftover pieces of bacon from Friday, and oatmeal sounded good.

So I cooked up 3 eggs, heated the 3 pieces of bacon through, and made one serving of oatmeal on the stove, then split it between us.

Perfect amount of food!

After breakfast I cleaned a bit, did some laundry, and ran some errands (I had to at least rinse my car off. I kept getting nasty road salt all over me when I get in/out of my car!!). DH did similar, and we reconvened at home for some lunch…

Lunch

Again – I asked DH what he wanted. This time he said kuldunai! So I cooked him up some kuldunai and set aside a few for myself as well with a small pat of real butter.

I spent the afternoon making phone calls back home – I try to call my family (mom, dad, and grandma) once a week to check in and chat, and I normally do it on Sunday, sometime.

After all the phone calls, I found myself a bit hungry, so I had a mug of Honey Smacks (holy sugar, batman!) and some milk. Yum! I felt like a little kid. Haha The Honey Smacks were leftover from my dad’s last visit…it’s the only cereal he’ll eat.

Dinner

Dinner was Chipotle! I haven’t had Chipotle since my DH lived in Malibu, CA for graduate school.  We have a local burrito place that has awesome food, so I was anxious to have Chipotle again and see how it compared.

Dinner is unpictured…I was just unprepared and forgot. Haha

I had a chicken burrito, and split an order of chips/salsa with DH. I only ate half my burrito.

Verdict? I honestly think I like the local place better. Their flavors meld together better…Chipotle, all I can taste is the spice they put on the chicken!

Dessert

Dessert was my daily yogurt (French vanilla) with some of Beek’s coconut granola sprinkled in.

Evening

The reason I didn’t get to post this Sunday evening – DH and I played board games! I love board games. LOL

We played Parcheesi (just two people, though, so it went fast) and then I made DH play 1 round of Life. I haven’t played Life in forever! DH won both though – boo! In Life, he was an entertainer and retired with several million dollars, single, with one child. I, on the other hand, retired $240,000 in debt, with 4 kids and a husband. LOL

What are your favorite board/card games? Especially for 2 people!?

Monday

Monday morning the pup woke me up about 4am. Ugh. I told her to go back to bed (and she did! It’s awesome when she listens. Haha) but my tummy was so hungry it hurt!

I did go back to sleep, but when I got up I knew I wasn’t going to make it until I was able to heat up my oatmeal for breakfast. So I grabbed a granola bar on my way out the door to tide me over.

After my 8am meeting, I heated up my oatmeal….

  • ½ cup oatmeal
  • 1 cup 1% milk
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup blueberries

Since I had already had “two” meals this morning, I didn’t have a snack…

Lunch

I had the second half of my burrito from dinner last night, with some baked tortilla strips we had at home.

And some carrot sticks because I was feeling guilty about my veggie content today.

Snack 1

Barely an hour after lunch, I was feeling snacky. I pulled this bag of “Snackimals” out of my desk stash, and pulled out one serving (2 servings in the bag) and ate them.

They were perfect! Crunchy and just the right amount of sweet. I’ll have to get more of those.

Exercise

Week’s Lineup

Monday: 30 minutes steady state cardio + chest, triceps, shoulders strength + some stretching for my piriformis

Tuesday: 20 minutes HIIT on the elliptical + lower body strength + abs

Wednesday: After-work activities, and it’s my birthday, so probably just yoga

Thursday: 20 minutes HIIT on the stationary bike + back, biceps, abs strength + stretching for my piriformis

Friday: 30 minutes steady state cardio + full body breeze through strength (if I feel like it) …choosing 2-3 exercises from each strength training this week.

Tonight I did my 30 minutes of cardio on the stationary bike, and then did the following for chest, triceps, shoulders…

3 sets, 12 reps each:

Dinner

It’s Monday night – that means DH is cooking, we’re having steak, AND he’ll be serving me entirely too much pasta! LOL

We had venison steaks tonight, and the usual steamed broccoli and pasta tossed in olive oil.

I’m going to pass on a picture so I can get this posted and go relax. The antibiotics are starting to kick in, but the full workday+workout has me tuckered out.

Dessert

Dessert shall be the infamous yogurt – pear flavor tonight! – with some of Beek’s granola.

Today was a pretty boring day. I was supposed to go to a baby shower today…but seeing as I’m sick and miserable and crabby, I politely bowed out.

That resulted in a day filled with: farmer’s market, natural foods store, vacuuming, mopping, cooking, prepping veggies for next week, laundry, and even a little Olympics.

Oh! Speaking of the natural foods store (I try not to go often…I normally spend a fortune), I found some fun stuff today!

Coconut milk (I’ve never had it…what should I do with it?!), a Kambucha squash!!!, chia seeds (for Beek’s granola)….and the ThinMints. I found those at the Farmer’s Market, but honestly, I’d been scouting for them. I give myself a 2-box limit, and it normally takes me all year to savor and love every little thin.

I’m just a wee bit obsessed.

All of that was totally enough to wipe me out in my “delicate” state. haha

Alas, today was also day 1 of antibiotics-world. I hate taking antibiotics and will commonly try everything else under the sun before agreeing to take them.

One might say I’m a bit stubborn. smile_tongue

So what follows the antibiotics? Yogurt. Lots and lots of yogurt.

Women probably know why. Men reading don’t need to know. Just let it be known that yogurt will be my best friend for the next 10 days.

You’re gonna see a lot of yogurt. You’ll probably also notice I eat regular-sugar varieties of yogurt. I have the world’s most delicate stomach (and IBS, and preservative allergies), and all those artificial sweeteners they cram into light yogurt do a number on me.

Anybody know of a light yogurt sans artificial sweeteners? I do eat some Greek yogurt, but sometimes I like the creamy consistency of regular as well.

Lunch

One of my co-workers was selling pizza kits for her mission trip. I purchased one to help her. Normally, I just give a donation to the person, instead of buying candy/cookies/pizza/etc, however, I’d heard a lot of buzz about these specific kits, so I ordered a whole wheat “jr’s” kit (small pizzas…about the size of a french bread pizza).

I had one of my pizzas from the kit, and a side salad (spring mix, cucumber, carrot, tomato) with red wine vinegar.

The pizza was tasty, but they’re not to die for or anything. Ah well! I can say I’ve had them now!

Snack

While I was cooking ground meat and chopping veggies and making Beek’s granola, I snacked on the last, lonely almond cookie.

Dinner

Dinner was inspired by How Sweet It Is, and her BBQ Ranch Chicken Sliders.

They were tasty! I made a different spice mix and served them on potato rolls (DH has boycotted whole wheat rolls and I was honestly too lazy and cheap to buy a pack just for myself).

I also served a couple of tater tots ( love those dang things) and some leftover steamed veggies from last week.

 

Weekend meals tend to be a little weird, as they basically serve to clean the fridge out!

Evening

I’m pooped, so my evening includes my jammies, my husband, my dog, the Olympics, and my book.

 

Oh. And the mandatory daily yogurt.
